|.without you i am nothing: a homage to free culture_, a project by .-_-. , was made possible by appropriating 36 free/libre works, and could have never been possible otherwise. .without you i am nothing: a homage to free culture_ can be considered as an unlimited sequence of moving abstract expressionist images_ each frame of .without you i am nothing: a homage to free culture_ experienced in 1/25 of a second is “unique” and cannot be experienced for the second time. thus it features an example of endless creativity, the source of which is inherit in the previous creative works, which have also possibly been built on what came before them_..
.culture builds on what has been produced before_.everything we come up with are in fact a product of our past experiences, thus nothing is original, all work is appropriation, “all creative work is derivative” and “everything is a remix” .this work couldn’t have been possible without appropriating other works; without them it was nothing. the authors of the appropriated works encouraged others to copy, share and build on it in a free way by stating their politics on this through free cultural licenses or even just through their declaration without using any kind of a license. they are the peers of free culture. this work is a homage to these authors and to free culture. there are many other free cultural works. the works attributed in this project are just some of the free/libre videos of the peers of free culture as of 2010_
|.the works appropriated in this project are free/libre to be copied, shared, appropriated, even used for commercial purposes to create another economics .this work takes “the definition of free cultural works” initiated by erik möller, as a reference for free/libre works that constitute the free culture_..
.many licenses of creative commons that have “no derivatives” and “non-commercial” clauses restrict appropriation and commercial use. many of the creative commons licensed works have these clauses and they just create a simulacrum of free culture_ .all the works appropriated in this work are either licensed with one of the licenses listed for free cultural works (Free Art License, GNU GPL, CC by, CC by-sa) in “the definition of free cultural works” or are in public domain, or have their own statements encouraging copying, sharing, appropriation and even commercial use. if any of these freedoms is not declared in the authors statement, .-_-. contacted and asked them about their ideas and politics about these freedoms and got approval to include in this work_. besides the final product, the process of making this work; researching the free cultural works on the internet and getting in contact with their creators, is the real artistic experience for .-_-..
.this project would have never been possible
without appropriating the following free/libre works/projects_
